On 23 February 2017, the award ceremony of 2016 Young Researcher Award took place at the International Institute of Macau. The award aims to be an incentive to young students, teachers, graduates and creatives to research and further study for the sake of the development of the Macau’s Special Administrative Region’s development – in the strategic sectors of economy and diversification, heritage and identity, applied sciences, and Macau History. The prize, together with a diploma and a monetary award of twenty five thousand Patacas, has been attributed since 2001 and the objective is to stimulate young generations, where its focus is to diversify social intervention, create opportunities and expand the growth of knowledge.
In the current year, through this accomplished competition, the award was given to Loi Wai Cheng, in the area of Social Sciences, a work about “The Impact of Social Support on the Mental Health of the Visually Impaired in Macao”; and Lei Ka Meng, in the area of Applied Sciences, with the work titled “Miniaturized Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Platforms for Chemical/ Biological Assays with Customized CMOS Integrated Circuits”. During the session, Secretary-General of IIM, Rufino Ramos, has made an incentive to the participants to dedicate their time in the investigation regarding themes about Macau and contribute as well for social and cultural development. The competition of 2016 was very competitive, with about thirty two works received and analyzed by two academic teachers, Mok Kai Meng and Chan Ka Wai.

The representation of Macau in the third edition of the Lusophone Festival in Goa was made on 7 March 2017 at the Central State Library Panjim Goa, through a photo exhibition "Cultural Heritage of Macau" of the International Institute of Macau (IIM).
The photos were exhibited until 9 March 2017, portraying the heritage legacy and the cultural traditions of Macau, from a photograph​ competition of IIM in 2016. 
Supported by the Macao Foundation and the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), during the opening ceremony was also presented the recent publications of IIM and showed the last promotional video of MGTO. 
A collaboration between IIM and the Lusophone Society of Goa (LSG), this is a mutual collaboration of Goa and Macau.

The "International Macanese Youth Encontro" took place in San Francisco, USA, between 13 and 20 August 2017. The representatives of the International Institute of Macau (IIM) were at the opening ceremony of the event, by participating in different activities, cultural visits with many of the young Macanese of the diaspora. The opportunity of this Encontro, which was organized by the Lusitano Club of California, was to gather the young Macanese to continue preserving and promoting their identity, an uniqueness of Macau.


Encontro Internacional dos Jovens Macaenses em São Francisco, Estados Unidos da América

ICAS 10 was held on 20-23 July at Chiang Mai, in Thailand. This event is the premier international gathering in the field of Asian Studies. ICAS is a platform for representatives of academia and civil society to focus on issues critical to Asia and by implication to the rest of the world. ICAS is an active accelerator of research. ICAS was in Macao on 2013.

For this year, Macao was represented by the Macao Foundation (FM), University of Macau, Institute of European Studies of Macao, the International Institute of Macau (IIM) and the Association of Macau Press in Portuguese and English languages.

IIM was represented by its member, Mariana Pereira, with the presentation of different issues: 
1. "Beyond the theatricalities of the Dóci Papiaçám di Macau: The social role of the community theatre as intangible heritage";
2. "Developments in heritage conservation";
3. "Developments in intangible heritage";
4. "Heritage, postcolonialism and cities".


10ª. edição “International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS)”

The photography contest “My Macau My Love!” is a joint initiative of the International Institute of Macau (IIM), in collaboration with the Macao Digital Photography Association and the Leo Club Macau Central, with the support of the Macao Foundation. 
With a significant participation of local young students and the general public, approximately 500 photography’s were presented to this year’s contest, ended on 31 August. This contest aims to stimulate the people knowledge, mainly between the young people, regarding the rich heritage and the traditions that belong to Macau’s culture. 
The best works will be exhibited at the Rui Cunha Foundation Gallery, located at the Avenida Praia Grande, starting on 25 November until 8 December 2017.
After the evaluation by the jury members of this contest, the best works of the student’s category were Ao Hou Fai, Chio Song Hin and Chao Chi Hun, and for the general category, the best works were Lei Heong Ieong, Li Man Lok and Chan U Long. Finally there are twenty winning honorable mentions for this contest. 
The jury of the Macao Digital Photography Association was composed by Leong Chan Kong, Tam Keng and Si Wun Cheng, and António R. J. Monteiro and Chan Ka Hou were representing respectively IIM and the Leo Club Macao Central.
The open ceremony will be held at the Rui Cunha Foundation Gallery on 25 November 2017 (Saturday), 4:30pm.
